About Orana physical culture club
At Orana Physical Culture Club (Orana Physie for short), we proudly teach the BJP Physical Culture curriculum.
BJP Physie is the oldest running and most prestigious Physical Culture establishment in Australia.
For over 125 years, BJP has provided a national platform for Physie girls from all around Australia to come together to engage in competitions and camaraderie.
“Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families. Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie.” – Jackie Rawlings, BJP Physical Culture
Empowering Girls for Life
There is an aura of confidence around Physie girls of all ages. Taught to stand tall, with strength and pride, they are team players committed to achieving their goals.
Unlike some ballet and dance studios, Orana Physical Culture Club focuses on developing the self-esteem of its students. By teaching them to have a positive relationship with their bodies, we help students blossom with confidence and self-assurance.
BJP Physie is passionate about nurturing students’ total wellbeing, in both mind and body. Physie is an accepting and encouraging team sport, where every member is supported and motivated to be the best they can be.
Meet the Teachers at Orana physie!
Kristy Hubbard
Kristy started Physie as a 6 year old girl and returned after a long break to a rekindled love of Physie as a lady. Since beginning her teaching career in 2018, Kristy has taught many of our Junior age groups and has obtained her Level 1,2 & 3 Accreditation through BJP.
In 2025 Kristy will be teaching our Sparkles and our 5-8 year olds. She is excited to give each girl an opportunity to shine, have fun and feel empowered in a positive environment. She loves watching the newest and shyest girls gain confidence and courage throughout their Physie year. Teaching a positive mindset and positive body image is important to Kristy.
Kristy’s career highlights include watching her girls individually and in teams gain success.
She has coached many Teams to great success, with her 7-8 year old winning their competition for three consecutive years. “Watching a group of 8 girls work hard together is amazing and being their teacher is an honour”
Sarah Campbell
Sarah has been doing Physie for over 30 years, after her love for Physie started as a young girl. She has had many successes during her own Physie career both at Zone level and National Finals.
Sarah has now been teaching for over a decade and has taught girls of all ages from Sparkles to Ladies. In 2023 she completed her Level 1, 2 & 3 BJP Accreditation.
In 2025, Sarah will be teaching the 9-12 year olds and the Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Open Ladies classes at Orana.
Sarah loves being a teacher. She loves seeing the confidence grow in her girls and ladies and helping support their Physie goals to come true. Sarah’s true passion is Physie and she loves passing that on. Between her passion and her expertise, Sarah is a wonderful role model to all she teaches.
Lauren O’Donnell
Lauren was born in the Physie world, with her 3 older sisters leading the way! When she relocated to Dubbo in 2019 she was thrilled to join the Orana Club and be able to continue her love of Physie.
In mid 2023 she joined our teaching team and has enjoyed every minute since.
Lauren will be teaching our 13-14, and 15-1st Year Senior classes in 2025. She enjoys teaching the challenging syllabus and is looking forward to guiding her students through their transition from the Junior syllabus to the Senior syllabus this year.
Lauren has done Physie for 25 years, and whilst she has had many successes during her career, the thing she loves most is the lifelong friendships she has made and the enjoyment she gets out of performing. She aims to pass these qualities onto her students.
Jaimee Shuttle
Jaimee has been doing Physie for over 30 years and comes from a Physie family – with her mum and all 3 sisters doing Physie together.
Jaimee teaches our Seniors at Orana and has vast experience teaching and assisting across all age groups. She loves seeing students progress with their goals and achieve the results they set for themselves. Along with her experience, Jaimee has now completed Level 1, 2 & 3 Accreditation through BJP.
Jaimee has had many career highlights including performing at the Opera House as a junior, reaching Nationals as a lady and taking the 7-8 teams through to first place at Zone level.
Testimonials from Students and Family at Orana physie
Sparkles
Nicholla – Anthea (Sparkles)
I love the combination of dance and gymnastics. The teacher Sophie works well to encourage all the girls to try each of the activities every week. The music is age appropriate and teaches basic skills of listening to instructions.
Courtney – Amelia (Sparkles)
Orana Physical Culture has allowed Amelia to explore her creative side and express herself to the fullest. She has made many friends, and has learnt skills that will set foundations for future lessons
Juniors
Beck (Lucy 8 years)
Orana Physie has been the most supportive, welcoming and caring sporting club to be involved with. From the moment I made contact to the day of our last competition, Lucy’s teacher (Kristy) has been amazing! Orana Physie is well organised with a very family friendly atmosphere. All members of the club (from 5yrs to ladies) support each other and as a parent I feel part of a big family. Physie allowed my daughter to compete with her best friend without making either one of them feel left out or behind. Best Physie club!!
Merryn (Sophie 2nd Year Senior & Rebecca 11-12 Years)
Orana Physical Culture provides an inclusive environment, welcoming girls of all ages and abilities. I have watched our girls’ self esteem, confidence, passion and commitment grow through their involvement at Orana Physical Culture.
Our girls have been supported to set goals within their Physie, and strive towards these, at a pace that suits their own skills and abilities, with encouragement to take pride in their achievements and those of their friends.
Senior
Georgie – Giaan ( Novice Senior)
My daughter and I are blessed to be a part of Orana Physical Culture. We have been a part of Orana since the beginning.. Orana has provided an environment of inclusion, passion and pride. Orana has especially stepped up and made steps to make our club culturally safe and somewhat taking the lead in the Physie world when it comes to raising awareness of our First Nations, something that is greatly appreciated by First Nation Members. Orana has amazing associates who care and pass on their knowledge and passion to all members, not just the students in their classes, something my daughter has been very grateful for.
If you want a place to feel welcomed and included while you or your daughter learn Physie Orana Physical Culture is the place to be, guarantee you will not be disappointed
Siblings
Meredith Muller – Estelle 11 years, Annliese 14 years, Maisey 15 years
I signed my middle daughter up for Physie when the Orana Club first started in 2018. I wanted my daughter to work on her core strength, for her to have an opportunity to meet new friends and for her to gain confidence in an environment that was supportive and encouraging.
Very quickly my older and younger daughters decided they wanted to join in too because there was a sense of belonging, a family friendly atmosphere, every girl was given the opportunity to be in the front row and the focus was on growth and setting personal goals. These were features that far outweighed the experiences they had each had in other dancing settings.
I am so very glad all three of my daughters are doing Physie with the Orana Physical Culture club. Of course it’s nice to be presented with a medal around your neck but the benefit of building resilience, learning the value of perseverance and hard work, making new friends, contributing to a team and being a good sport by encouraging young and old in their Physie journey are skills of far greater worth than gold in my eyes. I know these are skills my girls will use for the rest of their lives.
Thank you Orana Physie Club for all you have done for our family.
